“Social media is like having a second job”
This is what most business owners say to me when we start working together.
And they’re not wrong. But it’s not social media, it’s us.
We only care about what’s new, what’s now, what’s next.
I could go off about how this has been wired into us to survive. But I’m not a historian or biologist, I just do marketing.
In short new = sexy.
We like new.
We pay attention to new. And in marketing attention is everything.
The acceleration of ad fatigue
In the good ole days, you could put an ad in the Yellow Pages and it would get you customers year-round until the next edition.
One ad, one year. Done.
Now?
Times have changed. They fizzle out faster.
There’s a “TikTok brain” pandemic and people can’t focus on one thing for too long.
If a video is longer than 90 seconds, it better be interesting or nobody is watching it.
You’re now just a distant memory as they scroll on and forget you exist three videos later.
It’s the same with ads.
If they see the same ad from you time and time again it loses impact. They recognise it. They’ve seen it before and it’s now boooooring.
They scroll past it and you’re still charged for them seeing it.
The longer you run an ad the interest drops off, the less customers you get and the less money you make.
You’re just watching your marketing budget bleed out and give you less returns.
Which let’s face it… Isn’t ideal.
So how do we fix this?
Fix your online presence
Luckily if you want to fix this you don’t have to make the brainrot content you see on TikTok.
No dancing, no conspiracy theories, and no putting your head in a toilet to mimic the “skibidi toilet” videos. (My nephew showed me that and it felt like an acid trip)
The simple fix is more content.
Which also means more ads.
It sounds counterproductive, and it will be if you don’t do it right.
Your perfect customer does one thing when they’re on social media…
binge content.
They want to see more of you.
More tips and tricks.
More videos of “insider knowledge”.
More ads from different selling angles and new content.
If they like you they’ll go to your page and keep consuming your content.
They want more of you. And it’s perfect because the more they see of you, the more they’re sold on what you offer them.
Don’t post one ad, post five.
Give them options and in return, you’ll see a massive boost in your results.
